Two nights after Hurricane Charley struck Orlando, I was at my office with my friend, Jeff, for the A/C and internet connection since neither of us yet had power restored. Jeff noticed the sky outside and I snatched my camera, ran up to the roof of the building, and squeezed off a few shots.

On my way to a high school classmates get-together, I noticed this storm and the odd clouds it was producing. Since my camera was sitting right next to me in the seat, I pulled over and started shooting.

1998 was the beginning of a brief stint of annual trips to Washington state, the first time being for my brother's wedding which was immediately followed by a few days in San Francisco.

Summer 2000 is when my office at last acquired a Nikon CoolPix 990 and began the transition from shooting film to shooting digital. It would be three more years before I'd buy a digital camera of my own, and I was too paranoid to use the office camera for personal reasons. It came with me to D.C. because it was a trip for a convention (followed by some sightseeing at the Capitol area). But, by the end of the year, I felt more comfortable having it out and actually did take it on a personal trip.

2001 saw a few more outings with the office camera, though I really don't remember why I used a different camera from a coworker on the Carolina trip.

Early this year, I purchased an Olympus C-5050 and began shooting photos a lot more often. This was also about the time a gang of my friends started getting together much more frequently, providing more opportunities to keep snapping. By the end of the year, I purchased a used G4 Mac tower, had a friend help me install this Gallery engine, and starting organizing all these albums.

Highlights of this year include a trip to Puerto Rico, the infamous 2004 hurricane season (which affected Orlando more than the record-breaking 2005 season), the last of a nearly annual series of trips to Washington State, and my office's purchase of a Nikon D100 which is the camera used in some albums from this point forward.

Two weeks in St. Louis and the months of looking for a condo dominate this year's memories. After getting nailed three times by the 2004 hurricanes, Orlando caught a bit of a break in 2005, even though this year saw the most named storms in recorded history.

I got even more prolific with fun/silly photos this year for two reasons: I had traded up my mobile phone for one with a 1.3 megapixel camera, and also bought an Olympus Stylus 720SW (sold the C-5050 on eBay). The 720SW is a pocket-sized camera and it is with me almost all the time now, ready to whip out at a moment's notice, even if the conditions are not dry!

This is the year I divided up my photo albums into years to make certain albums easier to find, and to make certain pages load more quickly. Also, after three different Sony Ericsson phones, I finally gave them up in favor of the Apple iPhone.

A June trip to southern Missouri for my younger cousin's wedding in Branson was a lovely trip, although the hands-down photographic highlight of the year, so far, was driving to the Rocky Mountain National Forest for a couple hours of sightseeing before flying home after an annual convention. Late this year also saw the acquisition of a Nikon D90 for work—a vastly superior camera to the D100 used previously. It is certain there'll be plenty of albums in the future featuring photos taken with the D90.

My trip to San Francisco in January for the 25th annual Macworld Expo is going to be tough to beat as the highlight event of this year. Well, okay, my holiday trip to Alberta is up there, too, but that was about visiting and really not a photo trip. I'm also looking forward to using the new Nikon D90 from my office. Amazing pictures out of that camera.

For Mother's Day weekend, the family had an idea to visit the botanical portion of this Museum. It was pretty, but so hot this particular day.

Somehow I sense the Festival has been more visually stunning in the past, but I still saw some very pretty floral areas this weekend. This album comprises pictures taken on Friday with my friend Jeff and his family (celebrating his grandmother's 100th birthday), and my solo return on Sunday which ended in a couple shots over at the Magic Kingdom. A third subalbum was also added from one last trip for photos to the festival.

After years of attempting to pull it off, I and four of my friends—Rosa, Vergy, Melvin, and Jeff—finally managed to arrange a multi-day vacation. Several different destinations have been on our minds, but Puerto Rico was the final candidate for our first excursion together.
